A collection of constitutional texts that established the genre of observation cinema, a rich overview of the Greek production, as well a filmmaker’s insightful take into the relationship between the subject that observes and the one that is being observed, accompanies the 25th International Thessaloniki Documentary Festival’s tribute “The Art of Reality: Beyond Observation.” The historical origins of the genre, its evolution over time, as well as different versions of the methodology that ensure the (often invisible) truth of the human condition are revealed through the writings of Eva Stephani, Colin Yang, David McDougall, Dimitris Kerkinos, Apostolos Karakasis, and Zacharias Mavroidis.
