In light of the gender imbalance in the design community, this volume presents outstanding female designers and their work. However, the aim is not to discover something "feminine" or define "feminine" design, but rather to counteract the male-dominated discourse. The carefully curated graphic works stand on their own and range from commissioned works and independent artistic projects to areas of design research, opening up new perspectives on the diversity of contemporary graphic design.

These presentations are complemented by interviews conducted by the editors with 22 female designers, sociologists, and design theorists. To shed light on the lack of recognition of women in the design world, they specifically inquired about their design attitudes, ideas, ideals, and experiences in their everyday professional lives.
